Recent Threats To Roosevelt and Nathan Hale High Schools Result in Lockdowns

On June 13, a bomb threat caused Roosevelt High School to drop out of school early. They report that staff and students have accommodation.

Seattle Public Schools provide their information:

This is an urgent message from Roosevelt High School. There was a bomb threat at school this afternoon. As a precaution, school was early today. Students will have the day off from 12:15pm to 12:30pm. Students can use regular means of transportation. The school bus will pick up students by paratransit and arrive at the building as quickly as possible. Students waiting to be picked up are on portable devices. You can use the buckle to lift it. The missed final will be played this week. The safety and welfare of students is our top priority. We will continue to provide additional information as it becomes available. Thank you, Seattle Public Schools Board of Public Affairs.

On June 10 , Nathan Hale Middle School , also in northeastern Seattle, called police about a gunman. This occurs during basketball, soccer, and cheerleading practice. It was reported that all the students were taken to the locker room for over an hour to self-isolate.

The boss sent the following information:

Dear Nathan Hale Family:

This afternoon, after a student was fired, an employee called 911 about a man on campus who had a gun problem. The school was closed to protect those inside the building. Arriving police quickly arrested the suspect. After the police declared the situation safe, the lockdown was lifted and building staff and students were released from the lockdown.

As the police have confirmed that the situation has been resolved and the area is safe, they will continue work on the building as planned this afternoon.

And on June 3, the School Safety Report was released.
The boss sent the following information:

Dear Nathan Hale's Parents and Guardians,

It's about sharing information and resolving situations that are worrying for some of our students and their families.

All safety issues in the school are investigated according to the SPS protocol and the SPS protocol. Today, this has led to increased security and increased police presence on campus.

The student's posts on social media are seen by other students as a threat to school safety. A thorough investigation was conducted with the participation of the Seattle Police Department and SPS Headquarters. It was decided that the position did not pose a threat to school safety. The student has no intention of causing harm or threatening to do so.

Once the investigation is complete and there are no threats, we go to our scheduled school day and meetings, confident that our students and staff are safe.

Yesterday's emergency shelter at our school was designated as a medical emergency to allow rescuers to enter the building quickly, not for safety reasons. We wrote a message to the family shelter and that's what we are doing today with the social media issue. We will contact you in a timely manner when we have information to share.

Please note that the safety of our school community is always our top priority.

THANK YOU,

William Jackson, ed. D. (he, she) Headmaster of Nathan Hale High School
