Hospital Helipad Moves To Permananet Location

 

This week , the new helicopter over the forest's B building, also known as 'Building Maintenance', was launched.

Last year , in phase 1 of the expansion , the heliport was moved to the Basoko A (176') deck , known as the Friends of Costco Building . The landing pad will remain active until the maintenance of the building is fully completed. At the latter location, the noise is louder than the ground heliports that have been used for decades.

Children's helicopter

The Seattle Children's Helipad has been at ground level since the early 1990s. It allows sick children to be flown directly to the hospital by helicopter or landed on the UW's East Campus athletic fields. Twice a year, the number and type of landings are verified by an independent committee of experts and the LCC. In the six months from January to June 2018, there were 73 touchdowns, 61 at SCH and 12 at UW Field, compared to 54 in 2017 and 53 in 2016.

As part of SCH's latest expansion, the helipad will be moved to the top of the Friends of Costco building (Forest A) on October 17th. EIS projections suggest that noise will be more intense for some Laurelhurst residents due to the location of the former ground-level noise cap.

The lighting is as low as it allows; however, each patient transfer takes at least 20 to 45 minutes. Noise tends to be louder than land based heliports. When forest B ends, the helicopter moves to the fixed location above forest B (same height). At a nearby mansion in Laurelhurst, the noise level rises further. LCC will continue to monitor SCH and work closely with SCH on any issues that may arise in the new location.

Since 2013 , a helicopter hospital has been under construction in the southwest corner of the parking lot.
